Plamen Spahiev, PhD

I lead technology organizations and build the platforms underneath them. In more than twenty years I have gone from network and software engineering to running engineering as CTO, most recently a 60-person technology organization across Bulgaria, Germany and Spain for a media group operating thousands of websites. My work sits where management meets architecture: setting direction, building and running distributed teams, and staying close enough to the systems to make the hard technical calls myself.

Two subjects run through everything I do. The first is applied machine learning. My PhD at the Technical University of Sofia proposed a method and a proactive system for detecting cyber attacks in big data using AI, and in 2026 I architected an LLM-based platform that generates content and entire websites, so that people with no technical background now launch dozens of websites per day. The second is information security: risk analysis, business continuity, and making security practical for companies that cannot afford a large security team.

I teach computer networks, software architecture, big data and cybersecurity at the Technical University of Sofia, where I also lead the AWS Academy partnership, and I work in English, French and German.
